How to Care for Suede Shoes
• Lucy Williams`
Suede has a wonderfully soft finish that gives your favourite shoes a relaxed, timeless look. With a little regular care, it's easy to keep them looking fresh and ready for your next adventure.
Brush regularly
The easiest way to care for suede is with a suede brush. Gently brush the surface in one direction to lift away dust and dirt while restoring the soft nap.
Protect before you wear
Before wearing your new suede shoes for the first time, apply a suede protector spray suitable for the material. Reapplying it every few months helps protect against light rain and everyday stains.
Tackle marks quickly
If you notice a mark, it's best to deal with it as soon as possible. Allow any mud to dry completely before gently brushing it away. For small scuffs, a suede eraser can help lift the mark without damaging the finish.
Avoid soaking them
Suede isn't a fan of heavy rain or puddles. If your shoes do get wet, gently blot away excess moisture with a clean towel and leave them to dry naturally. Avoid direct heat, as this can make the suede stiff.
Store them carefully
Keep your suede shoes somewhere cool and dry when you're not wearing them. Storing them away from direct sunlight helps prevent fading, while shoe trees or tissue paper can help them keep their shape.
Refresh the finish
Over time, suede can become a little flat through regular wear. A quick brush with a suede brush will lift the fibres again, helping your shoes look soft and fresh.
Keep your favourites looking their best
With just a few minutes of care every now and then, your suede shoes can stay looking beautiful season after season.
