Leopard print is on the prowl again this season!
Take a leap and unleash your wild side with our super easy guide to weaving this classic animal pattern into your autumn wardrobe.
Ever so stylish, leopard spots have become a staple print for the more daring dressers amongst us - or so you might think? In reality, it’s a fun print with heaps of versatility and it’s natural colours and shapes means that leopard falls into the ‘neutral’ end of the pattern spectrum. That’s not to say that leopard prints are ‘tame as a house pet’ but with a little sartorial consideration, there’s no reason we can’t all have fun with feline details. Pounce on our tips for running wild with animal print every day!
1. Choose classic shapes
Just like their forest homes, leopard prints tend to be alive with colour and texture. A busier pattern needs clean lines and quieter shapes to bring balance to your outfit.
Classic pieces such as your favourite sheath dress or a well-loved cashmere cardigan are perfect. In fact, even slimline jeans work wonderfully with animal prints but you may want to steer clear of anything too fussy or frilly with this pattern. Working well with tailored suits, leopard brings a lovely feline edge to workwear. If you’re feeling more of a kitten than a lion when it comes to your office get-up, small accents of this print are all you need to make a statement. Think a leopard print belt or a pair of chunky heeled boots with a leopard features.
2. Blend with block colours
We love our colours here at Moshulu and it’s no different when it comes to combining wild prints with a perfectly chosen palette!
Leopard print will always stand out against an outfit of solid colours. We think leopard looks gorgeous with colourful jewel tones for autumn. Try rich cranberry red vintage shoes with a leopard print dress and a black jacket or pair an animal patterned skirt with an emerald green blouse. The colours you choose will also take your outfit from grand ‘king of the jungle’ to cool and casual cat. For a more laid back weekend look, denim gives off an effortless vibe teamed with a leopard tee and a bright coloured cardi.
3. Layer your leopard print
Nature’s colours of brown, beige and black make leopard a neutral pattern so it’s easy to wear with almost anything and it never goes out of style - what more could you want?
A wash of leopard print on an open blouse, layered over a long sleeve top and under your navy winter woolly coat, gives a subtle nod to this trend. You could also invest in a pair of playful leopard spotted long socks that will look pretty peeking out of gorgeous leather boots. The natural shapes of animal prints also look bold and beautiful next to graphic patterns such as stripes and polka dots - and we’re certainly a fan of those! Channel Brigitte Bardot and layer a stripy top or scarf and fabulous faux fur coat with simple solid colours to avoid repeating Pat Butcher’s ‘iconic style’!
