A Brief History of Moshulu

Prehistory

In the beginning, there was a regional footwear importer and distributor based in Woodbury in East Devon.  The company had traded for over 100 years before being bought by Henry Fulls in 1974 who ran it with his wife Jenny. They are still very much involved in the company today, Henry as Chairman and Jenny as Company Secretary.

Moshulu is born

Formed in 1997, Moshulu was the brainchild of Henry and Jenny's three sons: Daryl, Neal and Shaun, who, having been involved in the business for most of their lives, decided that shoes needed to be a bit more interesting - and so Moshulu Colours was born.

The very first offering from Moshulu was our ever-popular boat shoe, which has always been made in a little family run factory in northern Portugal.

Initially operating out of an overgrown tin shed Moshulu swiftly developed into a footwear brand inspired by that ‘holiday feeling’ - bright, colourful and fun.

With a rapidly-expanding collection, it wasn't long before a shop opened in Fowey, Cornwall, in 1997, exclusively to sell Moshulu shoes. The owner, Richard Marris, now has Moshulu shops throughout Devon and Cornwall.  In 2001, our company name was changed to Coastguard Road Ltd.

Stores and more

Since then, Moshulu has continued to grow and has spread across the country. In addition to the many stores that are in ‘holiday’ destinations, franchised outlets can also be found in a number of quality garden centres. There are now more than 40 stores throughout the UK, and we’re always on the lookout for more! Check out the Store Locator to see if there’s a Moshulu store near you.

In 2004 the the head office and distribution centre was relocated to a purpose-built site in Honiton, Devon. We now work out of 55,000 square feet of warehousing which has enabled Moshulu to operate as a lean, mean machine (also, it was nice not to have to come to work in the office dressed in woolly hats and overcoats).

Although Moshulu has grown considerably over the past 13 years, we’re still owned and operated by the Fulls family, ably assisted by Henry Hunt, who joined the Board as our sales director in 2001.

Moshulu stepped into the 21st century in 2008 (fashionably late, of course) with the launch of our retail website, www.moshulu.co.uk. So wherever you are in the country, you can browse and buy from our entire current season collection of cool, colourful, comfortable footwear.
